Other than that, this thing is doing really well with over 125,000 miles and I will likely drive it until it has close to 200,000. Newer vehicles may have one coil per spark plug, where. The ignition coil may wear out with time.

The biggest issue now is the rear passenger wheel well is rusting underneath and on the outside and there is rusting on the roof above the driver side where the windshield and roof meet. The ignition coil for your Ford Escape creates the charge that spark plugs need to start and run your vehicles engine. No major mechanical issues have come up and the majority of expense is spent on routine maintenance, the most being spark plugs ($400), front brakes ($350) and a 100,000 mile tune up ($400). Non-routine maintenance is increasing in frequency, as would be expected, but the biggest expense to date was replacing some suspension components on the front end. Horrible interior stying/center stack designĪfter 8 years of ownership my Escape is still performing really well. Jerky transmission when starting from a stop Other than some pretty stupid interior design (center stack mainly) and cheap materials, as well as an occasionally jerky transmission the vehicle is near perfect. But this thing is so smooth and nice on the road, the road noise is low (compared to my wife's Civic which is ridiculously loud), and the steering is so soft and fluid you can control the the vehicle with a single finger. My legs get cramped up or my back starts to hurt a little after only 20 minutes of driving. In 6 years I've yet to get the seat/steering position perfect. On the other hand, it is uncomfortable to sit in. The Escape is a challenge to rate for two main reasons: It is extremely reliable, has almost no mechanical issues, is smooth and fluid on the road and provides almost everything I need as far as cargo and transportation goes. These are the only two vehicles I've ever owned and I've been driving 15 years. Find out more about our advertising opportunities.I bought my Escape used in Sep 2010 to replace my 98 Grand Prix. PLEASE someone help me and let me know what is going on with these vehicles! Today I went to yet another shop, they stated that they thought these issues would have been RECALLED by Fords by now, since they, too, have tried to correct these error codes over and over and over with the Escapes.

They said they couldn't fix it, they had MULTIPLE Escapes in for the SAME ISSUES and could not get them to get fixed properly, even after replacing SEVERAL parts on them! I have spent THOUSANDS (yes, THOUSANDS) of dollars on replacement parts, towings, rental cars, etc to fix my Escape. Back to the shop, another $90 to run codes again, this time SEVERAL codes on emissions and such. Did it again within 10 miles of driving home. They changed the fuel filter and fuel pump because the "ratios" were so far off on it it was sending multiple codes. NO check engine light would come on until about a month of this!! Took to the shop several times. Would stall at a stop sign, stall while driving on the highway with my 6 year old son in the back seat trying to get to the side of the road without crashing! Would come to stop sign and the car would furiously jerk and shake so hard felt like it would fall apart in my hands unless I threw it into neutral. This Escape has been to the shop MULTIPLE times for the same problem! It would stall out while driving it.
